1. Overview
GEO Engine ("the app", "we", "us") is a Shopify application that analyzes a merchant's product catalog and store settings to produce an "AI Readiness" score and optimization suggestions. This policy explains what data we access, why, and how we protect it. By installing the app you agree to this policy.
2. What we access and store
To do its job, GEO Engine reads and stores the following store-level data:

3. Customer data (GDPR)
Because the app stores no customer-identifiable data, the mandatory Shopify privacy webhooks are handled as follows:
- customers/data_request — we hold no customer data to compile or return.
- customers/redact — there is no per-customer record to delete.
- shop/redact — when you uninstall, all store-level data we hold is deleted.
4. How we use the data
- To compute AI readiness scores and prioritized recommendations.
- To generate optimized titles, descriptions and alt text suggestions.
- To publish an
llms.txtdescribing your public catalog to AI agents. - To run scheduled re-scans and show historical trends.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
5. Third-party processors
We share the minimum data necessary with trusted infrastructure providers:
- Shopify — source of catalog data and OAuth authentication.
- OpenAI — when AI suggestions are enabled, product text is sent to generate optimized copy. If no AI key is configured, suggestions are produced locally with no third party.
- Hosting & database providers (e.g. our application host and managed PostgreSQL) — to run the service and store scan data securely.
6. Data retention & security
Scan history is retained only for the most recent scans needed to show trends; older scans are automatically pruned. Data is transmitted over HTTPS and access tokens are stored securely. When you uninstall the app, your store-level data is removed.
7. Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your store data at any time by contacting us. Uninstalling the app also triggers deletion of your store-level data.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
